Live Nation to Produce Super Star Concert Line During Twentieth Winter Olympics – Turin 2006

From February 11th to 25th, Medals Plaza will house the Award Ceremonies during which the athletes will receive their Olympic medals, sought-after rewards for their triumphs on the snow and ice of Turin 2006. Milano Concerti will be delivering fifteen consecutive days of ceremonies and great entertainment for thousands of people on site and for millions of TV audiences following the event globally.

“The last Olympics held in Italy dated back to 1960 when I was 8 years old. I am very pleased to be involved in such an important event,” said Roberto de Luca, Founder, Milano Concerti. “The work I’ve done and the experience I’ve developed in all these years turned out to be absolutely essential for setting up such an impressive production with an artist line up of this caliber. I am very proud Live Nation is involved in this prestigious and unique sports and entertainment event.”

Medals Plaza is set within the beautiful scenery of Piazza Castello, in the historic center of the city, to host one of the most spectacular moments of Turin 2006. Every day the square will stage the Award Ceremony followed by an incredible music performance by an international artist. Milano Concerti assembled the artist line-up and is wisely balanced between international stars and local artists. The result is a concert schedule without precedent in the history of both the Olympics and live music in Italy.

The massive rotating stage, covered with 16 tons of mirrored steel panels, will feature a giant 300 square metres screen, playing the award ceremonies and the concerts. The House of Flags, a 7-floor tall building covered with crystal and mirrored steel panels, will house all the flags of the Olympic countries. The outstanding structure will also feature a Media Building, backstage and services areas with an audience capacity of 9000 each day, including 1000 seats.

Beyond the Medals Plaza events, Milano Concerti and its partners will be charged with the responsibility to plan and realize the Paralympics Closing Ceremony, which will conclude the Winter Olympics for disabled athletes, on March 19th.

The stunning scenery of Medals Plaza will also house the Olympic Flame extinguishing ceremony, as well as the Baton passing to Vancouver 2010 for the next Winter Olympics host city.
