TORONTO, Nov. 25 2013 /PRNewswire/ — Ticketmaster, a Live Nation Entertainment company, recently wrapped a successful month-long campaign in Canada to raise funds for cancer research through its inaugural “Giving Thanks” program, in partnership with The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. For the entire month of October, fans who purchased tickets for any event through Ticketmaster.ca had the opportunity to donate a minimum of $5. 100 percent of proceeds raised through this campaign were donated to The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation, the fundraising arm of the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Canada’s largest cancer research center and one of the top five in the world.
“Ticketmaster is fully committed to participating in the ongoing fight against cancer,” said Tom Worrall, chairman, Ticketmaster Canada. “Through the ‘Giving Thanks’ campaign, it’s not only our company assisting renowned institutions like the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre; now, it’s also thousands of fans who are involved, making contributions that will be used to find ways to overcome this devastating disease.”
“Giving Thanks” had an exponential advocate: Rugby Canada, the national governing body of rugby union in Canada. The organization’s official website encouraged rugby fans to donate, in the wake of one of the biggest games of the year, the Nov. 3 match between Canada’s National Senior Men and New Zealand’s Maori All Blacks at BMO Field.
“We are thrilled with the support from Ticketmaster, its customers and our Canadian community,” said Paul Alofs, president & CEO of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation. “Every donation is significant because the funds contribute to world-leading cancer research benefiting all Canadians. Through Ticketmaster’s ticketing platform, we have been able to reach a very large and diverse audience.”
The “Giving Thanks” program marks the first time that Ticketmaster and The Princess Margaret have partnered together.
